History of Expertise

Don is a member of the CJB&S business valuation, systems consulting and tax practices. He assists local attorneys and business owners in establishing the market value of small to medium size, non-public, businesses. He specializes in investigative valuation of businesses whose financial statements may require substantial analysis to assess fair market value. Don performs valuations and assists in negotiating mergers and acquisitions as well as settlements related to divorce, owner disputes, family limited partnerships, retirement planning, business succession and estate and gift taxes. He also assists owners in preparing their businesses for future sale at the most favorable price. He regularly serves as an opinion witness in litigated matters. Don was a manager with the world's second largest accounting firm, and served as Vice President - Compliance and Audits of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange before founding his own firm. That firm merged with CJB&S in 2005.

Educational Background

Don received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from Roosevelt University in 1967. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the states of Illinois and Wisconsin. He qualified through education, experience and examination for the business valuation credentials issued by both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ABV) and the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (CVA), and the financial forensics credential issued by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CFF). He has completed over 3000 hours of continuing education as an instructor or as a student, and has taught in the Masters Degree program at Roosevelt University.

Professional Affiliations

Don is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois CPA Society, and the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts. He is President of the Board of Managers of Normandy Hill Condominium Association IV, and has just completed four years on the Board of Directors of Top Cats - Illinois.

Personal Interests

Don's passion is riding a big motorcycle on twisty rural roads with his "gang" from Top Cats - Illinois. Top Cats - Illinois has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association with its annual charity ride. Don lives in Northbrook with wife Alice, and enjoys spoiling his grandchildren.
