The promotion comes after Lorena Engleman was named the firm’s first female equity partner in fall 2023.

CJBS, an award-winning and industry-leading accounting firm based in Illinois, is pleased to announce the promotion of Gabriela Ursu, CPA, to income member.

Gabriela has over 15 years of experience in public accounting, providing assurance and tax services. She dedicates a significant portion of her career to sectors such as not-for-profit, staffing, manufacturing, distribution, and retail. In these areas, she has spearheaded financial statement audits, reviews, compilations, audits of employee benefit plans, and financial projections.

During her time at CJBS, Gabriela has also played an essential role in educating the firm’s junior associates on auditing basics and conducting on-site visits with the firm’s esteemed clients.

“Gabriela not only is a talented and qualified professional in her own right to earn this well-deserved promotion, but her dedication to the rising stars of the firm has demonstrated her commitment to CJBS’ strength as a whole, for which we are immensely grateful,” CJBS Managing Partner Jeff Stuart said. “Gabriela walks the walk when it comes to the phrase, ‘A rising tide lifts all ships.'”

In her educational background, Gabriela has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Computer Information Systems and a Master of Science in Accounting. Further, she is a Certified Public Accountant member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Illinois CPA Society (ILCPA) and serves on the Illinois CPA Society’s Not-for-Profit Committee.

“Every day, our team strives to improve and become better than we were yesterday. The collective drive and enthusiasm are what I appreciate the most about our company,” Gabriela said. “Our goal is to build a strong team, develop their strengths, and find ways to utilize those strengths in various aspects of the company. It’s a fulfilling experience, and I am excited to continue my career here at CJBS.”

Gabriela’s promotion came months after Lorena Engleman was appointed to become CJBS’s first female equity partner. In 2023, The Daily Herald recognized the firm as the second-best place to work for women, the No. 1 accounting firm for women, and the third-best company overall (accounting for both small, mid-size, and large businesses) in Illinois.
